When I read this book I was surprised at how good it could be with so much gore and viscera. Even though the plot is unrealistic, it isn't completely out of reach. There are underlying themes, I think, that make this story the perfect simile as growing up as a teen in not only Japan, but most of the modern world. You are put into a battle with your class mates. Who is the smartest, coolest, most athletic popular etc. Not only do we put ourselves into this position, but our own culture, government, and parents allow us to damn ourselves.
An amazing piece of work that will keep you on your toes, and kill you to put it down.
