I have all of Alastair Reynold's UK hardbacks which feature traditional sci-fi type covers, and I love them all.
However, after seeing this in a book shop I bought it anyway. I really like this one and had to have it. For a while it was my desktop wallpaper last year. However, I do hope that he keeps his traditional style covers for normal editions.
I hate it when a publisher changes the cover style for an author such as when they changed all the new reissues of Iain M Banks. The originals were far better. I'm just glad I have all the original ones.
I notice that US copies often feature inferior artwork in my opinion. I'm glad the the UK covers are often superior. Check out the difference between Asimov's Robot and Foundation series in the UK and USA.
