This is a selection from the Gollancz Future Classics, a line of promotional books from 2007; no titles, no author credits.
This conceit works particularly well for Schild’s Ladder. The cover is a literal depiction of the story, wherein an experiment accidentally spawns a bubble which starts consuming stars, and figuratively refers to the “quantum graphs,” differential geometry and other mathematica utilized in the story. A title and byline on this cover would have reduced the whole thing to the Star Wars opening credits.
